Heat stroke and exhaustion are the causes for the death of the 29-year-old French tourist Violet Gigano, an autopsy has determined, state broadcaster ERT reported on Sunday.
Authorities had ruled out criminal activity from the beginning, when they found her body, despite the advanced decomposition.
The body of the woman was found on Thursday afternoon in a rough and difficult accessible path, some 5 km away from Elafonisi.
After a short excursion to Elafonisi, she was walking back to her car in Cape Krios. At the time of the tragedy soaring temperatures were prevailing in the area with low vegetation.
Violet Gigano had come alone to Chania for short vacations.
She went missing on June 24 and her family alerted authorities after she lost contact to her.
A huge search operation and a Missing Alert were launch but the end for the young woman was tragic.
